DECATUR -- DeKalb County police jailed a Woodstock truck driver and charged him Saturday with DUI and vehicular homicide in a chain-reaction collision on I-285 Friday that killed three people and injured seven.
Ephantus Gathuru, 49, was being held without bond, Officer Cory Hughes said.
The afternoon wreck near Flat Shoals Road shut the eastbound lanes of the interstate for more than three hours.
"I saw the semi hit its brakes and after that happened I saw cars flying in the air, just going everywhere," witness Sally Petermann said.
The tractor-trailer stopped on top of an SUV, whose occupant was killed. A couple from Florida in a sedan also died.
Seven people were injured, two critically. Wrecked cars littered the interstate.
