Posted: 5:16 am EDT June 24, 2005Updated: 12:17 pm EDT June 24, 2005

Gwinnett County police were searching for a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a man who was gunned down during a hail of gunfire, authorities said.

Paul Blackwell

Police declined to release the victim's name but relatives identified him as Paul Blackwell, 24, of Buford. The man was pronounced dead after investigators found his body at a home in the 200 block of Latimore Avenue shortly before midnight.

The fiancée of the man told reporters that the victim went to the home to apologize to men whom he had argued with earlier.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting.

"The shooting took place in front of some witnesses," Officer Darren Maloney, a police spokesman said, adding that investigators were trying to take statements from the witnesses.
