Ga. 400 Reopened Following Tractor-Trailer Wreck

Posted: 3:39 pm EDT June 16, 2005Updated: 5:01 am EDT June 17, 2005

The southbound lanes of Ga. 400 have reopened following a wreck in which a tractor-trailer collided with an overhead sign, prompting authorities to shut all lanes as Wednesday's evening rush hour commute was beginning.

Officials said it could be several hours before crews repair the damage caused by a tractor-trailer.

Authorities set up a detour and closed the southbound lanes of Ga. 400 after the accident, which occurred near the Mansell Road exit shortly before 3:30 p.m. Authorities said it would be at least 10 p.m. before crews repair the damage to the overhead sign.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. Authorities said a tire on the truck blew out and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then veered into the grassy median and collided with the sign.

Lengthy traffic backups were reported from the accident, which added to commuters' woes as they traveled through North Fulton County.
