Landmark Forsyth Restaurant Goes up in Flames

Posted: 5:21 am EST December 1, 2004Updated: 11:28 am EST December 1, 2004

Authorities were searching Wednesday for the cause of a fast moving, overnight blaze that virtually destroyed a landmark Forsyth County restaurant.

Scene

The cause of the blaze at the Midway Meal House restaurant was under investigation.

The blaze at the Midway Meal House restaurant, located in the 5100 block of Atlanta Highway, was reported shortly after 11 p.m. No injuries were reported but the eatery, said to have been in business for generations, was gutted during the blaze.

Lt. Paul Adams said when firefighters arrived on the scene the fire was confined largely to the attic area but that it spread quickly because the building's walls, ceilings and floors were constructed from pine, which fueled the fire.

The building was apparently empty when the blaze broke out.

Channel 2 Action News reporter David Bodden contributed to this report.
