Police were searching for clues Thursday after an employee who works in the Fulton County public defender program was found dead in his home.

Scene

The body of John Ray, 32, was found Wednesday in his house in the 1900 block of Browns Mill Road about 3 p.m. His co-workers asked police to go to the home after he failed to show up for work for several days.

The man was found lying in a pool of blood and evidence indicated that there had been a struggle inside the home, authorities said. Investigators said the man's death is suspicious.

The victim worked as a paralegal at the Fulton County Conflict Defender, a nonprofit group that provides legal services to indigent defendants.

A neighbor said the home of Ray, who lived alone, had been burglarized last week.

"He told us that they had cut not only his electricity but his telephone wires as well and got in through a window," said resident Rose Sylvia.

She said the man's white compact car was taken from the home.
