Man Arrested For Sex Trafficking

Federal agents arrested a Louisiana man accused of taking two minors from Atlanta to Birmingham for prostitution.

WATCH Channel 2 Action News reporter Eric Coleman at Federal Building with more.

Dmarcus Antwain Ward, 25, of Minden was indicted, last week, on charges of sex trafficking of minors and transporting them for the purposes of prostitution.

U.S. Prosecutors said from September 2009 through November 2009, Ward allegedly transported the minors from Atlanta to Birmingham on separate occasions for the purpose of engaging the juveniles in prostitution in both cities.

Acting United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said, “The troubling reality is that sex traffickers frequently target destitute young runaways who need food and housing. We are committed to aggressively prosecuting anyone who exploits children through sex trafficking.”

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, sex trafficking charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the transportation charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

This case is being investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
