GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A pilot was confirmed dead by Gwinnett investigators after a small plane crashed in Gwinnet County Monday. Three passengers were able to walk away and were taken to an area hospital, investigators said. The pilot was still inside the plane when it caught fire, investigators said.

The plane, carrying 4 people, went down around Simmons Circle and Spring Circle in Lawrenceville. The plane crashed into a wooded area behind homes in a residential area.

Federal Aviation Administration officials tell The Associated Press the plane was a Beech 65 twin-engine. FAA records show it was registered to a Robert Peter Watson Sr., of Dawsonville.
