Shooting Injures Former NFL Player

Carla Tellis told Channel 2 Action News reporter Richard Elliot that she was in her car with her boyfriend when she saw an angry man shoot Perry inside his SUV, hitting him twice.

"The only thing that really saved him was that he put his hand up and the bullet is still in his hand. When he turned, the bullet hit him in the back and went straight out," Tellis said.

Tellis told Channel 2 that Perry refused to give a woman money and the woman went and told her boyfriend, who returned with a gun and opened fire.

Tellis describes Perry as a charitable man who often gives money to those in need.

"He's a hard giving person. He sits down and gives anybody money because he has an open heart since he can't play ball anymore. He said that's what God asked him to do," Tellis said.

DeKalb police are still looking for the gunman and his girlfriend.
