1,500 Rebel Students Dress Inappropriately

Fifteen hundred Clayton county students, from nine high schools, dressed in inappropriate clothing on Friday Nov. 20, school officials said.

School officials said they were a target of an organized effort by its students to disrupt Friday's daily routine. It was learned that text messages were sent out to the students urging them to "buck the system" and dress in inappropriate clothing.

“Our efforts to gather information on this situation have been hampered by the fact that the district is in the midst of our week-long Thanksgiving Holiday observance,” said Charles White, district spokesman.

“Students who participated in this deliberate attempt to interrupt the school routine made a bad choice on Friday and need to be held responsible for that decision,” said Dr. Edmond Heatley, superintendent.

“It should be noted that disciplinary actions were based on students’ failure to follow instructions and disrupting the school and not on being out of uniform dress.”

Disciplinary actions varied from school to school based on specific situations but were within the parameters of the district’s Student Code of Conduct.
