Slain Teenager's Items Stolen From Storage Unit

A metro Atlanta mother is outraged over the theft of items belonging to her deceased son.

Tammy McNeal said a storage unit, containing personal items that belonged to her slain teenager, was broken into at a self storage facility on Covington Highway.

“It's gone. I'll never get it back. So I have nothing left of my child expect some pictures, none of his stuff is there,” said McNeal.

Reginard Beckley was 15 years old when he suffered a fatal stab wound outside his Ellenwood home 18 months ago.

McNeal said she was preparing to donate Beckley’s personal effects. McNeal said all but one pair of brand-name basketball shoes are gone, a $200 leather jacket and the thieves left a keyboard but took her son’s computer.

“Someone popped the lock off ... and went through our stuff and took what they thought was just stuff, when it was so important,” said McNeal.

A U-haul manager told Channel 2 Action News consumer investigator Jim Strickland off camera that he had just fired an employee accused of suspicious activity, and that security videotape may provide evidence.

But hours later, a corporate representative told Strickland that the employee firing was unrelated and that the video showed nothing unusual.

“I'm hurt, because I trusted a well-known, reputable company to watch over my stuff,” said McNeal.

Detectives told Strickland that they will view the tape and judge for themselves.

McNeal said she established a ministry to fight teen violence following her son’s death.
