Student, Volunteer Caught Having Sex In Classroom

Students and parents were reacting Thursday after school officials suspended a teacher for leaving a volunteer and a student alone in his classroom. After the teacher left, the two were caught having sex.

The incident happened at Forest Park High School in Clayton County.

The teacher is now back on the job, but for nearly a month after the incident he was gone -- and that posed a major problem for some parents and students.

In October, world history and drama teacher Kevin Jones was working with drama club students after school.

According to reports, when the rehearsal was over, school officials said Jones told all students they had to go home. Then he left. But a 20-year-old former student who volunteered with the drama club and a 17-year-old senior stayed behind. Soon after, an administrator found the two having sex in the classroom.

Jones was suspended without pay for 20 days. But parents said they never got an official notice from the school.

"We find out too many times what's going on in the school from the students. We don't have notices that are sent home, a final statement, or official statement coming from the school," said parent Shanda Ross.

While the teacher was gone, a substitute took over and some students said their grades dropped.

"I'm an A, B student and my grades dropped to a F from the A I had in his class," said student Christina Crutchfield.

"That's hurting her a lot. That's bringing her grade average down," said parent Karen Smith.

Friday night there will be a forum at Forest Park City Hall where parents can discuss the incident in more detail.
