K-9 Bites Gwinnett Home Invasion Suspect

Neighbors are calling a Gwinnett County man a hero after he stopped a home invasion. Herbert Carlos said he was working at his Lilburn home when he noticed a teenager forcing his way into the home across the street.

“I’m not a hero. No, no. Anybody would do the same,” said Carlos.

But neighbors said Carlos is a hero after stopping a home invasion to save a woman and her grandson.

Carlos said he was cleaning his gutters when he heard a scream and saw a gunman force his way into the house across the street. Carlos ran over, peered in the glass front door and called 911 for help.

"When he heard me on the phone probably that's when he got scared, you know? And then he opened the door and took off," said Carlos.

Carlos followed the man and guided police to his location.

Ultimately, officers were able to locate the suspect, with the assistance of the K-9 unit, in a yard at a nearby residence, according to the Lilburn Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Rodericus Jackson, sustained minor injuries as a result of being bitten by the K-9 during the apprehension and was subsequently evaluated by medical personnel, police said.

Police charged Jackson with assault and false imprisonment.

Neighbors believe Carlos saved the homeowner’s life and the life of her grandson.

"We look out for one another all the time around here. With neighbors like Herbert...you can't ask for a better neighbor," said neighbor David Douglas.

Carlos insisted he was not a hero.

"Here in this neighborhood, we know each other for over 10 years. You know, I know him, I know all my neighbors, and I'm pretty sure they would do the same for me," said Carlos.
