A Conyers man is accused of strangling his wife and trying to conceal the crime.

Rockdale County sheriff's deputies told Channel 2 Action News that Hakim Muhammad killed his wife, Shelia, and tried to conceal the slaying by staging a fake burglary.

Authorities said they went to the scene on Thursday after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor who spotted an unknown vehicle in the driveway and heard the sound of glass being broken.

When deputies arrived, they found a deceased female inside the residence and investigators questioned Muhammad at the scene.

Investigators said they determined that Muhammad had staged the scene to look like a burglary.

Deputies said Muhammad had removed his wife’s wedding band and had it in his pocket at the time of his arrest.

Because of the 911 call from the neighbor, deputies said they were able to take Muhammad into custody before he could finish his plan and flee the scene.

Muhammad has been charged with murder and concealing a death. He remains at the Rockdale County jail.
