Clayton County police are on the lookout for a man suspected of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her teenage daughter.

Police obtained an arrest warrant Saturday for James Kelly Howard, 31, in connection with the Friday evening stabbing.

Police spokesman Kevin Hughes said the 37-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and was in serious condition at Atlanta Medical Center.

Hughes said the woman's 15-year-old daughter escaped the apartment in unincorporated Jonesboro after being stabbed once. Her injuries were less serious than her mother's.

Police did not immediately release the names of the woman or her daughter.

Howard faces charges ranging from aggravated assault, cruelty to children and possession of a weapon by a felon.
