Off-Duty Cop Hit By Suspected Drunken Driver

An off-duty Cobb County police officer was hit by a suspected drunk driver Friday night.

The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Interstate 575 southbound and Bells Ferry Road.

Cobb County police believe a vehicle slammed into the officer’s cruiser at about 65 mph. The officer was transported to Kennestone Hospital with head injuries. The driver was also injured.

Investigators said the officer had his emergency lights on and was helping with lane closures for road construction.

The road was closed for hours as police investigated and cleared the crash scene.
