$5K In Camping Equipment Stolen From Boy Scouts

One local Boy Scout troop is out of five thousand dollars worth of camping equipment after thieves stole it from the trailer they stored at church’s parking lot.

Boy Scout troop 467 believed the trailer was stolen sometime between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. The Troop had planned a camping trip in Barrow County for the weekend but when Troop leaders came to pick up the trailer Friday morning, it was gone.

“I thought someone was playing a joke on us, we were like, oh you’re kidding me, someone, one of the guys took it, someone else left early with it or something,” said Scout Master Troop 467 Val Carolin.

Fulton County Sheriff's Deputies and Atlanta Police are investigating the theft.

“Technically the trailer is ours, but legally it's the church's so stealing from the Boy Scouts and the church, stealing at all is terrible, but from a church, that's really low,” said Boy Scout James Saldo.

The Scouts are not letting the crime spoil their camping trip to this weekend. They rallied the troops and are moving forward with their outing.

“We called emergency mobilization, you know, we worked the phones and we called all the dads and granddads up and we, and we just said what do you got, and so we're pullin' stuff out of basements and attics,” said Carolin.
