A routine check on a southeast Atlanta warehouse led to a theft bust and a police chase.

Police said they have one man in custody and police continued to search for a second one.

Only Channel 2 Action News cameras were there when Atlanta police recovered dozens of stolen power tools from a SUV.

Investigators said a curious officer curtailed the crime while checking on southeast Atlanta warehouses.

"When he came back here, he noticed a green Ford Expedition backed up to the tractor-trailer. They were unloading what appeared to be power tools," said Sgt. Dorian Graham of the Atlanta Police Department.

Graham said when the officer approached, a man hopped into the Expedition and led police on a chase -- sort of.

"He actually just made a big circle. He was driving about 40 miles an hour and he came right back here. So everything went fine," said Graham.

Police took the driver of the Expedition into custody.

Graham said the tractor-trailer driver, apparently in on the heist, fled. He is still on the run.

"We don't have the tractor-trailer right now, so we don't know even if the tractor-trailer may have been stolen. So we don't know that at this time," said Graham.

Police said the driver of the Expedition full of the stolen power tools is facing charges.

"Right now, he's going to be looking at some theft charges and fleeing police," said Graham.
