Police: Mom Made Up Abduction Story

Posted: 9:38 am EST November 5, 2009Updated: 2:22 pm EST November 5, 2009

Clayton County police arrested a woman who allegedly lied about her daughter being kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend Wednesday.

Police said Cara Williams called officials Wednesday morning at 7:45 a.m. and said her ex-boyfriend, Sentwali Corry, came to her house on Pointe South Parkway and took their 1-year-old daughter without permission. She also said Corry slapped her and called her names before stealing her van and taking the child. An Amber Alert was issued for the child Wednesday morning.

Police said shortly after posting the Amber Alert – which was posted on Georgia Department of Transportation signs and aired on local news stations – an employee for an attorney in McDonough called police and informed them that Corry had legal custody of the child.

The employee said Corry was granted full custody in September while Williams was incarcerated and she had been served while in jail.

The attorney’s employee was able to contact Corry, who had been living in Maryland with his daughter since September. Police in Clayton County worked with police in Maryland to confirm Corry indeed had full legal and physical custody of the child and they were both OK.

After confirming the child and father were OK, Clayton County police contacted Williams and had her come to the precinct, police said. According to the police report, Williams denied having knowledge of the custody order and insisted the incident occurred that morning.

Police said Williams could not explain how Corry could have left Jonesboro at 7:45 a.m. and been in Maryland by 12:30 p.m. the same day.

Williams was charged with false report of a crime and false statements. She is currently being held in the Clayton County Jail.
