Police Sniff Out Pot Growing Operation

Posted: 6:25 am EST November 5, 2009Updated: 9:21 am EST November 5, 2009

A Walton County man remains in jail Thursday after the strong smell of marijuana led police to more than $7.4 million worth of drugs in the basement of a house.

A Walton County sheriff's deputy said he was on routine patrol when he spotted an open door at a home on River Landing Drive.

Checking on a possible burglary at the house, the deputy said he noticed an overwhelming smell of marijuana. The deputy called for backup.

Inside the house, deputies said they found a sophisticated growing operation that included about 800 marijuana plants.

A collection of 1,000 watt lamps provided light and warmth for the plants, according to deputies. To see what the deputies found click here.

A power company crew was called in to make sure there were no live wires dangling from the ceiling as the lamps were taken down.

Police arrested Quang Hung Le, 28, who was renting the house.
