38 Arrested, 188 Pounds Meth Seized In Drug Raids

ATLANTA -- Thirty-eight people were arrested in metro Atlanta during a nationwide crackdown on a Mexican drug cartel.Officers from the Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and the Atlanta office of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) along with the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office raided houses in Lawrenceville and Lilburn Wednesday.
During the raids targeting La Familia Michoacana, a Mexican-based drug organization also known as La Familia, police said they found drugs and cash in the houses.

Officials said they arrested 38 people in the raids -- 31 from Gwinnett County, several in Cobb County and one in Clayton County.Police seized 17 kilos of cocaine, 188 pounds of meth, 13 guns and $50,000 cash.Similar raids were conducted in Texas, New Mexico and California, resulting in hundreds of arrests, according to the DEA.Over the past year, Operation Coronado has arrested 86 people and seized $2.7 million.
