Mother-In-Law Of Target Shooting Victim Indicted

Officials indicted the mother-in-law of the woman who was shot and killed at a Target store parking lot.

Police indicted Joanna Hayes on four charges -- malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony -- Wednesday in the shooting death of her daughter-in-law, Heather Strube, 25.

Strube was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Snellville Target store in April during a custody exchange. Strube's estranged husband had just given her their 18-month-old child when a person -- who police believe was Hayes wearing a wig and fake mustache -- shot and killed her. The child was not hurt.

Detectives from the Snellville Police Department, agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and investigators from the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office took Hayes into custody without incident, according to Chief Roy Whitehead with the Snellville Police Department.

In August, Hayes sat down for an interview with Channel 2 Action News reporter Mark Winne. Winne asked Hayes if she had anything to do with Strube's killing and she said, "No I did not."

When she broke down crying during the interview, Winne asked her, "How many days in the last few months have you cried like this?" Hayes responded, "Every day."

"I loved Heather dearly. And that is an honest statement," said Hayes in August.

Police had previously named Hayes as a suspect.
