A 46-year-old mother pleaded guilty Monday to barging into her daughter's Southside High School classroom and brutally beating her teacher in February 2008.

The mother, Georgia Thornton, apologized in court to the teacher, Felecia Williams.

Williams said the attack has left her with panic attacks and told the court she wanted Thornton and her daughter to pay for what they did.

“I was kicked, scratched, hit, punched and some of my hair was pulled out of my scalp,” said Williams.

Williams explained to a judge how the classroom assault was inflicted by Georgia Thornton and her daughter, Sequita.

Prosecutors say Sequita Thornton was failing Williams' communications class and Georgia Thornton went to the school and, without signing in, went to Williams’ class because she thought she had given her daughter an outdated book.

The attack ended after students pulled Williams away.

Georgia Thornton said she was under a lot of stress at the time of the attack.

“My hope today is that both Georgia and Sequita Thornton will be held accountable for the pain and suffering they have caused me,” said Williams.

“I do apologize to her for what happened. It shouldn’t have happened,” said Georgia Thornton.

The judge sentenced Georgia Thornton to 10 years, one year to serve in prison with four years probation.

Sequita Thornton sobbed as deputies led her mother to jail.

Sequita Thornton, then 17, was also charged in the attack.

Sequita Thornton was charged with battery on a teacher and disrupting a public school. She has asked for a jury trial and jury selection could begin Monday afternoon.
