BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. -- The search resumes Monday morning for a north Georgia woman who's been missing for nearly a week.38-year-old Kristi Cornwell of Blairsville vanished last Tuesday night while walking near her parent's home on Jones Creek Road in Union County. Cornwell's brother, Richard, a civil engineer from Knoxville, says "no matter how long it takes, there will never be an end to this search."Divers were brought in to assist with search efforts Saturday.A man, mowing his lawn, called the sheriff's office Friday evening to report that he had stumbled across a cell phone while working in his yard. The sheriff's office confirmed to Channel 2 Action News reporter John Bachman that the phone indeed belonged to 38-year-old Kristi Leigh Cornwell, who investigators believe was kidnapped while going for a walk Tuesday night. No one has heard from her since.Investigators told Bachman that they were sealing off the area where the phone was found, approximately 3 1/2 miles from where they had concentrated their search efforts.

Officials said they are looking to speak with the drivers of those vehicles.Cornwell’s family said they hope anyone with information will come forward immediately.Cornwell was walking home along South Jones Creek Road Tuesday night, talking on her cell phone with her boyfriend, when she told him a car was approaching. Her boyfriend told authorities he heard her yell, ‘Don’t take me’ and then the line went dead.Investigators said they found some of Cornwell’s belongings along the roadside and they do show signs of a struggle.“She was abducted, placed in a vehicle and removed from the area. That speaks for itself…she is in danger,” said Mike Ayers with the GBI.“We just keep hope. Keep hope alive and we’ll continue to do so until we find her,” said Cornwell’s brother, Richard Cornwell.Cornwell’s family said she was a probation officer before she decided to go back to school. Investigators confirmed they are checking out people she had contact with as possible leads in the case but they have no suspects. 17 different law enforcement agencies are participating in the search for Cornwell, as well as more than 100 volunteers.GBI spokesman John Bankhead says "it is a mystery, a very big mystery right now."
