2 Unattended Children Killed In NC House Fire; Mother Charged

CHARLOTTE, NC — Two children died in a house fire Sunday morning in Charlotte. Sunday afternoon, police arrested the children's mother in connection with the blaze.

Orgal Paulette Opata is charged with two counts of murder, child abuse, and exposing a child to fire, police said.

Police said four children were left alone inside a home on Rowan Street. Josiah Hawthorne, 2, and his 1-year-old brother Gabriel died, police said.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental, but fire officials have not released cause.
