HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- A 24-year-old woman nearly drowned in Lake Lanier Sunday, Hall County Fire Services Chief David Kimbrell said.

Kimbrell said the victim’s family pulled up near a sandbar and started swimming around its boat when the victim went under. The incident happened near Van Pugh Park south.

The victim was transported to North East Georgia Medical Center, where she was placed on life support.

Kimbrell said emergency crews also had to resuscitate a 6-year-old boy who was related to the victim.

The boy was taken to Egelston Hospital in Atlanta for further evaluation.
