Posted: 12:07 pm EDT July 5, 2009Updated: 5:00 pm EDT July 5, 2009

An Atlanta man was shot nearly 12 times as he walked down a street in the northwest section of town, police said.

The victim, identified as Dominique Smith, died as a result of the bullet wounds.

Police said the incident happened near North Avenue and Griffin Street not far from where Smith lived.

Investigators told Channel 2 Action News reporter Ashley Hayes that it appears the shooting was personal, but that Smith could have also simply been in the "wrong place at the wrong time."
