A man died Friday at Stone Mountain Park after authorities said he fell out of a kayak.

The Stone Mountain Fire Department and members of its dive team responded to the incident.

Belton Dykes, 68, drowned after falling out of a kayak between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Dykes widow, Mary Lou Dykes, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Saturday that the cause of death was unknown, but she suspects he had a stroke because he was capable of swimming the 40 feet to shore.

Officials said the victim was not wearing a life vest.
