Green Building Tour

Creature Feature- Butterflies and Moths
Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays in July at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, plus every Saturday & Sunday in July at 3:00 PM
Learn about these powerful pollinators and the plants and animals that rely on them. Creature Feature is our new exciting program that explores animals that call the Chattahoochee River home, focusing on a unique animal and a unique feature of life monthly. All ages. Naturalist-led Canoe Trips
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in July at 6:00 PM – dusk, plus Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM.
Ages 6 & up. This is a fantastic way to unwind from the daily hustle and bustle of suburban life, or to entertain family and friends. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of metro Atlanta’s best-kept secrets! Each trip is led by CNC naturalists, and offers a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River. Story Time by the River

Lakeside Pavilion Summer Series

Laughing definitely matters! Laughing Matters’ actors use games, skits, and songs to tickle the funny bone. In this improvised show, everything is made up according to the suggestions from the audience.

With a banjo on his knee and a guitar on his back, Mr. Eric celebrates with you our folk history and traditions through interactive tall tales, inspiring folklore, joyful sing-a-longs and fanciful fairy tales.

Family Pond Study
Sunday, July 5, 12:30 – 1:30 PM
Come explore your watershed! Find out first-hand what lives in the ponds at the CNC and what these critters can tell us about how healthy our water is. Ages 5 and up (adult helper required). Pee-Wee Naturalist Summer Series (Ages 3 & 4)
Three-part series on Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21 OR Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22; 9:45 – 11:00 AM
Classes include animal presentations, art projects, and natural world investigations, including trail walks and interactive activities. Program topics cover: Animal Trackers, Beautiful Butterflies, and What Lives in the Water. $50 non-members/$35 members (price per session; adult helper required and admitted free). Nature Explorers (Ages 5 & 6)

Welcoming Fish to CNC
Saturday July 11, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Join Jim Long from the National Park Service and Chris Scalley from River Through Atlanta Guide Service to learn about the new aquarium in our Discovery Center. This will be a broad survey of fish, native and non-native, that live in the Chattahoochee River and its tributaries and how they are affected by water use, river regulation, and urbanization. Ages 12 & up. $15 non-members/$10 members.

Flying Colors Butterfly Festival
Saturday, July 18 from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM and Sunday, July 19 from 12:00-5:00 PM
While native butterflies swirl above you, enjoy a picnic, enjoy a puppet show presented by Piccadilly Puppets that portrays the life cycle of a butterfly on Saturday or listen to live Latin music by Havana Son on Sunday. Be sure to bring your camera to capture these fantastic, fluttering creatures up close. Butterfly releases and insect scavenger hunt, butterfly crafts and face painting, exhibits, butterfly gardening, fascinating entomology exhibits from the UGA Museum of Natural History, Monarchs Across Georgia and The Bee Project. $8 admission, free for children 2 and under.

Dragonfly & Damselfly Talk & Walk with field Guide Author Giff Beaton
Saturday, July 25, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Photographer and field guide author Giff Beaton will be giving a talk about dragonfly and damselfly life history and identification followed by a walk through our gardens focused on finding and identifying these beautiful invertebrates. Lighting for Digital Photography
Saturdays, July 25 & August 1, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break
This course will help you expand your knowledge of light and how to use it to improve your digital photography. Both flash and natural light are considered. Students will learn how to match the right light to the job, how to control “problem” light, and much more. $115 non-members/$95 members (CNC & GNPA). Night Hike

Join a naturalist on a journey outdoors to see what happens at night at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, visit with a nocturnal animal and enjoy a summer campfire! Pee-Wee Planters (Ages 3 – 6)

Federal law forbids paying welfare benefits to immigrants -- even legal immigrants. But a government investigation found that states all over the country are ignoring an important part of that law. When Channel 2 Action News reporter Richard Belcher asked Georgia's Department of Human Services what it was doing, the answer was: We don't know.

A Channel 2 investigation is exposing critical 911 delays. Dozens of Channel 2 viewers called and e-mailed us and said they were put on hold during emergencies. Investigative reporter Jodie Fleischer spent months requesting and digging through records. While the city of Atlanta still hasn't provived all of what we asked for, Fleischer has uncovered what appears to be a 911 emergency.
