Atlanta Bride-To-Be Jilted By Bridal Shop

You may have heard of a bride being jilted at the altar, but what about being jilted by a bridal shop? A Stone Mountain bride-to-be says she knows the feeling.

Dawn Heyliger thought she'd be wearing the dream wedding dress for her upcoming ceremony in October. Heyliger said she paid for the gown in full at Abrianna's Bridal and Tuxedo in Lilburn.

But when she went back to the store around Memorial Day, Heyliger got a rude awakening.

“I looked in the window and there was nothing … there was just scraps and mess like when you move. I was like, ‘Oh my god, she's not here … the store's not here,’” said Heyliger.

Channel 2 Action News consumer investigator Jim Strickland visited the store and found a note on the door stating that the store is relocating and that all orders needed to be picked up by June 1. The note directed customers to contact the store through its Web site.

Heyliger did and said she got no response.

"I'm hurt. I'm hurt about that," said Heyliger.

Strickland tried calling Arlissa Bell, the store owner, and the management company that owns the store building provided her address. Strickland visited the location, but no one answered the door.

Heyliger said Abrianna's Bridal made a vow to her - and now they either need to give her the dress or her money back.

Heyliger's bridesmaids also got their dresses at Abrianna's Bridal. She says, in all, the store has about $1,300 from her wedding party.

“One of the happiest times of my life and it's actually turning into a nightmare. I'm actually stressed now. I wasn't stressed before,” said Heyliger.

Strickland checked with the Atlanta Better Business Bureau and the bridal shop had no record at all.

Strickland said that is not uncommon, in fact in Connecticut, the attorney general recently sued a bridal shop there for closing and failing to deliver 18 brides' dresses.
