Couple Says Golfer Chased Them In Golf Cart

A Douglas County couple claims they were attacked by a putter-wielding golfer at a Douglasville golf course. Now, they want to see that man arrested.

The incident happened at the West Pines Golf Course off Rose Avenue in Douglasville.

"I was scared to death," said Kenneth Baker.

Kenneth Baker and his wife, Annette, said they still can't believe what they say happened to them along the rolling fairways of the West Pines Golf Course.

They were playing a twilight round Sunday evening when they got into a heated argument with a pair of golfers, they said cut in front of them on the 14th-hole.

That's when, they said, one of the golfers got so mad, he started to chase them in his golf cart.

"We're on this golf course and this guy's right behind us, screaming at us, 'You're not going to get out of here, you're not going to make it out of here.' And he's chasing after us," said Kenneth Baker.

At one point, they said the golfer jumped out of his golf cart and threatened them with a putter.

"And it was a frightening experience, and I couldn't believe something would happen like that here in our hometown in Douglasville," said Annette Baker.

The couple managed to get away and call police. The police came but decided the incident was not worth an arrest.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Richard Elliot asked police why they didn't arrest anyone. The officer said it was because there was conflicting stories and it was not their job to enforce golf course etiquette. The officer said they are still investigating.

The Bakers said they think the man is dangerous.

"Anybody that would chase a couple with a golf cart, with a putter in their hand to do bodily harm is really a menace," said Annette Baker.
