Expect Traffic Delays This Weekend For Paving

Drivers should expect heavy delays this weekend along Interstate 20 in DeKalb and Rockdale counties.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says crews will continue a resurfacing project between state Route 138 and SR 124.

The project, which runs from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, will close two westbound lanes from SR 138 in Conyers to SR 124 (Turner Hill Road).

Crews plan to pave the six-mile stretch, weather permitting.

“The weather has not cooperated with us the last few weekends, but I think we’ll make some good progress this weekend,” said DOT District Construction Engineer Mickey McGee.

The $12.2 million project resurfacing and restriping project is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

Additionally, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, a paving project on 14th Street will shift traffic from the northern side to the southern side between Williams Street and Crescent Avenue. As a result, two lanes will be closed at a time on Spring Street.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the work zone area, so it is important for motorists to use caution when traveling through a work zone.

Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this project. Drivers may also access live traffic cameras 24/7 on WSBTV.com.
