Coverage continues 9 p.m.-10 p.m. with the 6th annual Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta event which honors 14 young men and women who excel in athletics, scholastics, and character. The event also recognizes four high school coaches who serve as positive influences in the lives of young people.

According to WSB-TV Channel 2 vice president and general manager Bill Hoffman, it’s an important part of the station’s over all commitment to super serve the community.

“We are especially proud to showcase these high school students who are excelling in areas that traditionally get little notice," said Hoffman. "WSB-TV has the ability to expose these accomplishments to a much broader audience.”

Channel 2 Action News anchor Jovita Moore hosts “The Shuler Hensley Awards” special, along with Georgia’s Tony-award winning actor Shuler Hensley.

The awards program recognizes excellence in high school musical theater with categories including: overall production, leading actor, leading actress, chorus ensemble, and ten other categories. Fifteen high schools from the greater Atlanta area compete for the Shuler Award.

Next, Channel 2 Action News This Morning anchors Fred Blakenship and Carol Sbarge hosts the 6th annual Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta.

This event honors 14 high school seniors, seven men and seven women, on the basis of their performance in athletics, scholastics and character. The annual dinner event was attended by the honorees, their families, schools, and supporters of the organization. Former NFL All-Pro and college coach Bill Curry was this year’s guest speaker.

The regularly scheduled ABC programs, Wife Swap and Supernanny, will air beginning later that same night at 2:05 a.m.
