Gas Leak Forces Evacuation, Closes Roads In Cherokee

A broken gas line forced evacuations and closed roads in Cherokee County Monday afternoon.

A construction crew hit a 4-6 inch high pressure gas line near the intersection of Highway 5 and Sixes Road in Holly Springs, according to Tami Gerke of Atlanta Gas Light.

Six homes and several businesses near the broken line were evacuated.

Gerke said repairs could take several hours and last through the afternoon rush hour.

The intersection will remain closed while the repairs are underway.
