Up to 400 anti-war protestors staged rallies across metro Atlanta Monday to object to an expected war against Iraq.

The demonstrators held signs and marched at major intersections throughout the metro area during the height of the evening rush hour.

The protests, which were also held in major cities throughout the country, occurred on the heels of a report by chief weapons inspector Hans Blix. Addressing the United Nations Security Council on Monday, Blix criticized Iraq's cooperation during the inspection process.

In metro Atlanta, a handful of protestors gathered near the campus of Emory University on Clifton Road around 4 p.m. Passing cars honked their horns. There were no signs of counter demonstrators.

Eric Jacobs served during the Gulf War. He said he is opposed to a new war.

"I don't believe Iraq is much of a threat," he said.

Said protestor Susan Cookson: "People are thinking twice about what's going on and looking for proof (because) we haven't seen any."
