Lewis was an employee of the Griffin-Spalding County School System. According to school system spokesperson Anna Burns, Lewis is no longer employed with the school system and her responsibilities are being handled by a qualified employee until the end of the year.Investigator Bryan Clanton with the Griffin Police Department told Channel 2 Action News Lewis was a teacher.
The Griffin Police Department received a tip that Lewis and Taylor would be driving to a Rite Aid on South Hill Street to fill a fraudulent prescription. Police said Lewis obtained a prescription for Xanax and police stopped her and Taylor as they were leaving the store. Officers said they found the illegally obtained Xanax, a bottle of liquid Codeine, and a notepad with various names. The Codeine was prescribed to a name that was not Lewis or Taylor, police said. Officials said the notepad contained names that were used to obtain prescriptions.Police searched the couple’s home and found an empty Xanax bottle, a small quantity of marijuana, and a .25 caliber gun.Police said they interviewed the couple and they learned Lewis and Taylor were selling the drugs for profit. They said would drive to College Park where an unknown source would forge the prescription in whatever name the suspects decided to use, police said.“We received a lot of cooperation from Rite Aid and the school system in this matter,” said Clanton. “It does not appear that Lewis was an immediate threat to any Griffin-Spalding County students and her crimes occurred outside of her employment. The school system took every effort to ensure that this was handled correctly with regards to her employment.”Lewis was charged with possession of marijuana, party to the crime of prescription forgery and possession of a Schedule V narcotic.Taylor was charged with possession of a Schedule III narcotic, possession of a Schedule V narcotic, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule III narcotic, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule V narcotic, two counts of prescription forgery, and possession of marijuana.
