Obama Carries Atlanta Woman’s Lucky Charm In Pocket

Some people may argue that President-elect Barack Obama is a lucky man.

Obama’s clean bill of health, loving family and recent historic presidential victory are just a few reasons.

But a metro-Atlanta woman recently learned her inspirational creations may have helped Obama win the White House.

Kaycee Binns is the owner of Metal Morphosis located in Grant Park. She manufactures small metal trinkets and tokens stamped with inspirational messages.

During a taped interview, President-elect Barack Obama showed reporters what he carried around in his pocket for good luck.

“Out of all the trinkets that he carried, he pulled ours out,” said Binns.

“This is actually my favorite. It's like a little piece of luck. A little bit of luck. It has Braille on the back,” said Obama.

Binns said she received an e-mail telling her about an online video clip of Obama showing off the metal pebbles.

“I was sorta shocked the first day and the next day I cried,” said Binns.

Time magazine later featured the pebble. Obama mentioned that he didn't know what the Braille on the back meant. Binns said she put it there so people could feel the words, as well as see them.

Orders for the lucky pebble have multiplied.

“We're getting not only for the luck, but we're getting a lot of requests for hope,” said Binns, referring to messages on the pebbles, which also include dream, belief and strength.

Binns said she hopes to tell her grandchildren the story someday.

“That their grandmother actually had a piece in the 44th president's pocket when he took office,” said Binns, who said she only uses vendors from metro Atlanta; none of her metal is imported.

Binns said she won’t be going to the inauguration, but is happy to know one of her pebbles may be.
