Sixers Win Fourth Straight, Hand Hawks Rare Home Loss

Posted: 3:34 am EST January 12, 2009

(Sports Network) - Andre Iguodala had 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds, leading the Philadelphia 76ers over the Atlanta Hawks, 109-94, at Philips Arena.

Thaddeus Young recorded 22 points and nine rebounds for the Sixers, who have won a season-high four straight games. Andre Miller posted 19 points and seven assists, while Lou Williams had 11 points and six assists in the win.

"We controlled the pace of the game," Sixers interim head coach Tony DiLeo said. "We got fastbreak points, (and) we got into our rhythm pretty good, right from the beginning. We got out on the break and I thought we established that."

Marreese Speights had 12 points -- 10 in the fourth -- and eight rebounds for Philadelphia.

"I'd like to thank the people that watched our game," DiLeo said, speaking of playing at the same time as the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff game. "They are true Sixer fans. I know there was another event going on in Philadelphia. So I'd like to thank all the Sixer fans out there."

Joe Johnson had 25 points and nine assists to lead Atlanta, which has lost three in a row and dropped only its fourth home game all season. Mike Bibby added 22 points and eight helpers, while Marvin Williams had 12 points in the loss.

"(This was) a carbon copy for the past three games," Johnson said. "The starters -- we (didn't do anything). The start of the game got us behind the eight-ball, (and) then we expect the bench to come in and pick us up, when it shouldn't be that way all the time. We should come out and start respecting teams and start jumping on them before they start jumping on us."

Josh Smith contributed 13 points, and Maurice Evans had 10 for the Hawks, who found out that forward Al Horford will miss the team's next three games with a bone bruise to his right knee.

Heading into the fourth up 83-78, Philadelphia extended its lead to eight on Speights' basket with 8:22 to play.

The teams played about even for the next five minutes until Miller's layup with 3:32 on the clock put the Sixers up, 101-90.

Speights extended the lead to 13 on a jumper and Philadelphia never looked back from there.

The Sixers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Hawks fought back to tie the game at 16, and the game was knotted at 30 going into the second.

Philadelphia took a 41-35 edge on Speights' basket with nine minutes left in the second, and the 76ers led at halftime, 59-52.

The teams played even for most of the third quarter, and Flip Murray's three with 2.0 seconds left in the period cut Atlanta's deficit to five, 83-78, heading into the fourth.

Game Notes

The season series is tied, 1-1...Atlanta is 15-4 at home, and the Sixers improved to 8-12 on the road...Philadelphia is 8-6 under DiLeo.
