Henry County Man Accused Of Killing Little Sister

A Henry County judge denied bond Monday for a young man suspected of killing his little sister.

Shammarh Jenkins, 20, is charged with murder and cruelty to children. Police said he caused the death of his 2-year-old sister, Jayla.

Jenkins told his mother Jayla fell and hit her head Friday at the family’s home in McDonough. Jayla was rushed to the hospital Friday and died Saturday. Authorities said she suffered from head trauma.

When asked about her son’s guilt or innocence, Jones said, “I’m not really the one to judge to say he didn’t or he did. He was the last one to see her alive.”

The Department of Family and Children Services now has five of the victim’s siblings in state custody.

“I have nothing left,” said Shammarh and Jayla’s mother, Shamika Jones. “My kids are all I have in this world.”

Jones plans to go to court Monday to try and get her kids back.
