  • Officials told Channel 2 that Thomas Asaldi barricaded himself inside a house in the 900 block of Hall Street in southwest Atlanta shortly after 9 a.m.

Witnesses said Asaldi had been remodeling the house and they reported hearing several shots being fired from the house.

Atlanta police said Asaldi surrendered at about 1 p.m. after talking with their negotiators.

"We're trying to gather all the information to determine what may have set him off this morning," said Atlanta police spokesman Officer James Polite.

Authorities blocked off streets in the area as a precaution.

Atlanta police said Asaldi also had an outstanding warrant in Marietta related to drug and probation violations.

Asaldi was taken to Fulton County jail charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.
