Lawyers for Cobb County Commissioner Annette Kesting said a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent interviewed her Wednesday about an alleged trip to South Carolina to see a voodoo priestess. The priestess said Kesting wanted her to cause the death of the man who had just defeated her in a primary election.

ROSS CAVITT: GBI Investigates Alleged Cobb Voodoo Death Curse

Woody Thompson said he has taken a lot of good-natured ribbing since the story hit that the county commissioner he defeated had tried to hire a voodoo priestess to put a death curse on him.

"There's a dark side to this too and for somebody to have feelings like that, that they dislike you so bad they want to do something to cause your death, is disturbing," said Thompson.

Kesting told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt by phone that she never hired the voodoo priestess and that she had lost her bank book somewhere along the way.

The voodoo priestess, George Ann Mills of Blythewood, S.C., told Cavitt by phone that she's convinced Kesting did visit her and she knows exactly what Kesting wanted. "She wanted me to kill Mr. Thompson," said Mills.

The voodoo priestess filed a report with Cobb County police claiming Kesting's checks for the ceremony bounced.

Mills said a GBI agent came to South Carolina to interview her Tuesday and ended up leaving with evidence. Kesting said a GBI agent came to talk to her Wednesday about the supposed trip to South Carolina.

A group of people supporting Kesting said she planned to show up at a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the allegations but canceled because of the GBI interview.

The supposed target said he still can't believe it. "She took the office away from me and I was angry but I didn't wish for her to die. And I'd like to understand why the feeling goes that deep, why is there that much hate," said Thompson.
