Plane Crashes Near Fulton County Airport

Pilot Only Person On Board

An aircraft towing a banner crashed 200 feet west of runway 27 at Charlie Brown Airport in western Fulton County, said Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the FAA.

  • Bergen said the incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Sunday. She said the plane landed in bushes in an upright position.

    Bergen confirmed the pilot was the only person on board the Piper J3 light aircraft.

    The plane is registered to Van Wagner Aerial Media LLC in Hollywood, Fla., according to FAA registry.

    A spokesperson for the Fulton County Fire Department said the pilot was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with minor cuts, scrapes and bruises. The pilot's condition is unknown, but officials said his injuries are not life-threatening.

    A spokesperson said firefighters also worked Sunday to control a fuel leak from the plane.
