DeKalb County police say an autopsy revealed a 6-year-old boy died of natural causes, according to police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.

  • Authorities said the boy was found inside an upstairs unit at the Southern Place Apartments Saturday evening. Initially, authorities said they believed the boy's death was not accidental.

"When our officer arrived, he found the 6-year-old unresponsive," said Parish.

Police said a 10-year-old girl was the only person watching the boy at the apartment complex located off Montreal road in Clarkston when he stopped breathing.

Authorities said the girl ran to neighbors, who then called 911.

Investigators said the boy was later pronounced dead at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
