GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Channel 2 got an inside look at the investigation against a Gwinnett County woman accused of killing her husband. Evelyn Fields-Earls is charged with murder. In court Thursday, a detective told a judge about his 4-hour interview with Fields-Earls.“Evelyn told Melissa, ‘I killed your Daddy and I put the gun in his hand and then ran out of the back of the house,’” said Det. Roy Mangrum with the Gwinnett County Police Department.Mangrum took the stand and told a judge what Evelyn Fields-Earls told him the night Melissa Earls found her father shot to death in their Lawrenceville home.Mangrum said Fields-Earls changed her story several times during their 4-hour interview. The first version included another woman, said Mangrum.“They were eating dinner when another female came out of the back of the house wrapped only in a towel,” said Mangrum.Mangrum said there was no evidence of another woman. Then, Mangrum testified, Fields-Earls told him her husband hit her with the gun.“(She said) Mr. Earl said he didn’t want her anymore and he was going to kill her. He went back to the back bedroom and got a gun, came out and pointed the gun at her, shot at her and missed and she ran out of the house,” said Mangrum.Mangrum said Fields-Earls showed no injuries to back up that story.“We confronted her with the fact that Mr. Earls had been shot in the head in the middle of the face. At that time, her whole demeanor changed and she requested an attorney,” said Mangrum.Officials said the couple had been married for three years and Mr. Earls had filed for divorce. In the last four months, police had been called to their house for domestic issues at least seven times.
