Police: 14-Year-Old Snellville Girl Raped At Neighbor's Home

Gwinnett County police said they are looking for a man they believe raped a 14-year-old girl.

Authorities have been questioning day laborers in the area around Sidney Marcus and Georgia 400, asking if they know a man known only as "Mime." Snellville police said they believe the man looks for work there and now he's wanted by investigators for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

"Son, you need to turn yourself in, clear this up, get it over with for this family, for your family," said the victim's grandmother, "Jane."

Channel 2 has chosen not to reveal the identity of the girl's grandmother, who says her granddaughter's rape has been devastating. The victim told police she was at a friend's pool, across the street from her own home, when she was attacked.

"She was outside swimming in the backyard and when she was coming in the basement area, the suspect grabbed her, dragged her into the bedroom there, and proceeded to rape her," said Det. Damon Harper with the Snellville Police Department.

The girl's neighbors said "Mime" doesn't live at the house. They told police he was a day laborer who did construction work for them and sometimes spent the night there.

"If this guy has done this to this girl, there's no telling if he's done this before, or if he'll do it again. So we want to catch him," said Harper.

"She's just coming into being a young lady and to have what is so personal taken from her by somebody that cared nothing, felt nothing, it's horrible for her," said Jane.

Jane said her granddaughter will be going to counseling soon. Authorities ask anyone with information about the man to call Snellville police.
