Newsman Struck By Car While Covering Story About Car Accident

A longtime television newsman in Savannah has died after being struck by a car while covering an accident story.

Steven Shoob, anchor/managing editor at WTOC, was killed early Monday while returning to his car near the accident scene on Interstate 95.

  • WTOC news director Larry Silbermann said Shoob, 58, had responded to reports of a serious wreck on I-95 southbound near the South Carolina line.

    Shoob was born and raised in Savannah and graduated from Savannah High School. He started working at WTOC more than 20 years ago. In 2003, he won three Associated Press awards and the station's first Emmy.
