Three people were killed and one person life-flighted in a head-on collision in Douglas County that closed Interstate 20 for two hours Saturday morning.

The collision occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Interstate 20 eastbound, near North County Line Road.

Georgia State Patrol investigators said a car driven by 41-year-old Otis South of Mableton was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of Interstate 20. Authorities said they tried to stop the vehicle from going in the wrong direction, but it was too late.

Authorities said South slammed head-on into another car, killing him and two women.

Twenty-two year old Fatima Bird of Douglasville and 26-year-old Melisa Sinkfield of Carrollton died in the crash. A fourth person was transported to Atlanta Medical Center.

Authorities are investigating whether South was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
