Metro Atlanta Celebrates Fourth Of July

With All-American gusto people all over metro Atlanta are celebrating the Fourth of July.

They started lining up before dawn with the Peachtree Road Race, then moved on to holiday barbeques, marched down some of metro Atlanta's Main Streets, got ready to cheer on the Braves at Turner Field and won't call it quits until the last of the fireworks fizzle out late tonight. For a complete list of fireworks displays, click Salute 2 America on our homepage. ********************************************************************************************************* Fulton County - Lenox Square fireworks (9:00 p.m. Special Broadcast)

Celebrate the 4th of July at Lenox Square from 1:00 PM to 11:30 PM in the mall’s front and side parking lots with all day events and fireworks at end of the day. Miss America 2008 will join the fun. If you can’t make it to Lenox, catch all the fun and festivities by tuning into Channel 2 WSB-TV at 9 p.m. Our talent, Monica Pearson and Chuck Dowdle, will broadcast live from Lenox Square. Additionally, during the fireworks special, Fred Blankenship, co-anchor for Channel 2 Action News This Morning, will report live from Mall of Georgia.

********************************************************************************************************* Fulton County - Atlanta Symphony Orchestra “All-American Celebration" (6:30 p.m.)

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is hosting a "4th of July All-American Celebration" this evening at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta’s Encore Park. The festivities kick off with a "Top of the Lawn" Pre-Concert Talk at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live on-site, pre-concert broadcast with Scott Slade at 7:00 p.m. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. WSB-TV Channel 2 Anchor Tom Regan will narrate Copland's Lincoln Portrait. The audience is invited to text-message questions for interview segments during the live on-site broadcast hosted by Atlanta's Scott Slade of News/Talk 750 WSB. WSB-TV Channel 2 will stream a live post-concert high-definition broadcast of Buckhead's Lenox Square Fireworks on large screens at the amphitheatre. The venue will offer special all-American menu items including BBQ Chicken, Spare Ribs, Fried Chicken, and Apple Cobbler to concertgoers.

********************************************************************************************************* Coweta County - Newnan's Fourth of July parade (6:00 p.m.)

Main Street Newnan has announced that longtime Newnan resident Norma Haynes will be grand marshal for at 6 p.m. July 4.

The annual parade starts at the Veterans Park at the corner of Temple and Jackson Street and continues down Jackson and LaGrange to conclude at Newnan High School. The Newnan Rotary Club picks up the festivities from there with family fun at Drake Stadium on the NHS campus. A giant Rotary fireworks display will begin at dark. ********************************************************************************************************* DeKalb County - New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Celebration (3:00 p.m.)

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the Fourth of July with featured entertainment from celebrity guests, amusement rides, worship and fellowship and one of Georgia's largest fireworks displays. Performers will include Ron James & The Truth, and many other renowned local artists. Additionally, several cooks are putting the finishing touches on their recipes for the Fourth Annual Grill Off/Bake Off. "We are looking forward to our great Fourth of July celebration," stated Bishop Long. Gates for the New Birth Independence Day event will open at 3:00 PM. Parking passes are $10 and all day amusement ride wristbands are $10, however, when purchasing a wristband with parking, a discount will be offered. An impressive fireworks display will begin at dusk and the festivities will continue until midnight.

********************************************************************************************************* Henry County - Georgia Independence Day Festival (3:00 p.m.)

Henry County will host a Georgia Independence Day Festival at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton. The festival will feature actors dressed as colonials or English soldiers reenacting our founding fathers during important moments in our history that ultimately led to the birth of our nation. Inflatables and face painting for the kids, games, live music and great food add to the fun. The Georgia Independence Day Festival will be held from 3 p.m. to dusk.

********************************************************************************************************* Gwinnett County - Mall of Georgia Music and Activities (2:00 p.m.)

Put on your red, white and blue and celebrate July 4th at the eighth annual Mall of Georgia's Fabulous Fourth event. Activities heat up at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4 with free concerts in the Village Amphitheatre, continuing into the evening. Children of all ages will be entertained for hours in the Kids' Zone area, which will include bouncy house inflatables, carnival games and other family activities (nominal fee may apply for some activities).

********************************************************************************************************* Fulton County - Centennial Park (2:00 p.m.)

The National Museum of Patriotism, located at 275 Baker Street in Downtown Atlanta, will celebrate its 4th anniversary today by ringing a replica of the Liberty Bell 13 times to represent the 13 original colonies. It is the museum’s tradition that the bell be rung by citizens from around America. The Bell ringing will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Centennial Park. The National Museum of Patriotism will re-open its doors to the public in early October.

********************************************************************************************************* Fulton County - Atlantic Station (12:30 p.m.)

A 200-person parade kicks off at 12:30 p.m. featuring bands, celebrities, horse drawn carriages and local VIPs will enter Atlantic Station from the 17th Street Bridge, wind their way through the retail section and make one loop around the park before concluding the parade at the Gate. Spectators are also invited to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Millennuim Gate, a monument full of Georgia history.

********************************************************************************************************* Fulton County - Centennial Olympic Park (12:00 p.m.)

Centennial Olympic Park's 4th of July Celebration offers a full day of fun and entertainment for the entire family. The annual festivities in the Park begin early with children's activities from noon - 5 p.m. including arts and crafts, face painting, performances, inflatables, stilt walkers and more! Visitors can also relax on the Great Lawn and cool off in the world famous Fountain of Rings.

********************************************************************************************************* Cobb County – Marietta (10:00 a.m.)

The Independence Day parade begins at 10 a.m. at Roswell Street Baptist Church and travels west on Roswell Street, north on E. Park Square past Glover Park and the Square, down Cherokee Street and ends at North Marietta Parkway.

********************************************************************************************************** DeKalb County - Stone Mountain (10:00 a.m.)

The city of Stone Mountain will again be celebrating our country's birthday with its annual 4th of July Parade. This year's parade will take place on Main Street beginning at 10am. Bring your chairs and get a good spot to celebrate!
