Dogs Rescued From Puppy Mill

Hundreds of people with a bad case of puppy love lined up at the Atlanta Humane Society overnight, hoping to adopt one of 150 purebred dogs rescued from a puppy mill.

The dogs were rescued from a breeding operation in Hickman County, Tenn.

The first person in line was at the Humane Society at 9 p.m. Monday night. Cars jammed the narrow street in front of the Humane Society off Howell Mill Rd.

“We are happy to give these animals the proper care they deserve,” said Carl Leveridge, president of the Atlanta Humane Society.

Leveridge said the animals were rescued from filthy, deplorable conditions. "Many of them have never been in air conditioned rooms or even been touched by humans. This will be their first shot at life,” he said.

Once the animals are cleaned up, spayed, neutered, and micro-chipped, they will be available for adoption from the Atlanta Humane Society.

About 45 purebreds such as pomeranians, bichon frises, poodles, Yorkshire terriers, shar peis, Boston terriers, Chihuahuas, great Pyrenees, and miniature Doberman pinchers, among others, will be available for $200 each, beginning Tuesday.

The animals will also be given their shots. If you are interested in adopting one of the animals, please call (404) 875-5331 for more information.
