LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County firefighters were busy Friday night trying to get two separate blazes under control. Lightning was said to be the cause in both cases.

Firefighters first received a call around 9:05 p.m. about a possible lightning strike at a house in the 2700 block of Springrock Hill Trail in Lawrenceville.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the two-story house. Firefighters said the home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

The fire appeared to have originated when lightning struck a nearby tree and ran inside the house via a gas line.

Firefighters said the blaze caused moderate to extensive damage to the structure. No one was injured.

Less than two hours later, firefighters received another call about a fire in the 900 block of 942 Hickory Nut Lane in Lawrenceville.

Two adults were home at the time and reported that lightning hit the house around 10:45 p.m. They escaped unharmed.

When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from the center of the roof. The blaze caused moderate to heavy damage to the roof, attic area and the main living space.
