After several weekends of traffic jams because of the repaving project on the Downtown Connector, the challange this weekend will be even getting onto the interstate.

Six ramps leading onto- and off the Connector will be closed.

According to the Georgia DOT, this weekend’s work will include the following lane closures:

  • One of two lanes on I-75 southbound from 16th Street to the merge with I-85 (Downtown Connector) will be closed.
  • Two outside (right) lanes of I-85 southbound starting under the Peachtree Street overpass to the merge with I-75 will be closed.
  • Starting at the merge of I-75/I-85 southbound three outside (right) lanes will remain closed to just south of Freedom Parkway.
  • And the following ramp closures:

  • 10th Street on-ramp
  • North Avenue off-ramp
  • Williams Street off-ramp
  • Spring/Williams streets on-ramp
  • Courtland Street off-ramp
  • Freedom Parkway off-ramp (on-ramp to I-75/85 not affected)
  • The HOV lane and three additional inside lanes will remain open to traffic throughout the weekend.
  • Combined with Braves game traffic, major southbound delays are expected. Braves fans are strongly advised to avoid I-75/85 and take MARTA or use I-285 and I-20.

Travelers passing through Atlanta to other destinations are urged to use I-285 and go around the city.
